Construction was complete on the building located at in 1873 by Empire Car Works. Empire Car Works was a major railcar manufacturer within the City of York, Pennsylvania. In 1894, Keystone Farm Machine Company moved into the building and manufactured and sold farm equipment. In the beginning of 1919 the building was bought and branded as the Keystone Color Works Building. Keystone Color Works, Inc. manufactured wallpaper colors and mica.
